The Information Technology (IT) Department is committed to the District Mission and Vision. Technology is utilized to support student learning in an engaged, educationally focused environment.
The IT203 Infrastructure team provides enterprise-wide technology enablement for education in all classrooms of Naperville 203. In support of the District’s 1:1 program (Digital Learning Initiative), this team upgraded the wireless environment in 2012, ran a pilot program with head-head-head evaluation of Microsoft, Apple and Google in 2013, with subsequent rollouts of 1:1 Dell (touch) Chromebooks to the high school level in 2014, junior high level in 2015 and finishing the elementary level in 2016. Upon completion of the Digital Learning Initiative, a technology enabled environment of 16,000 Chromebooks at a 1:1 ratio in high schools and junior highs, and elementary grades 2-5, as well as 1,300 iPads at a 2:1 ration in K-1 serves the technology enabled lesson plan delivery at all schools. Providing engineering, administration and support for all aspects of technology services of Naperville 203, the span of responsibility includes LAN, WAN and Backup WAN, redundant and high availability in-house virtual servers and storage, redundant ISP connections, multi-layered data transport, cybersecurity and systems identity management.
Recent projects have included extensive work in student/staff safety with Raptor visitor management systems, InformaCast mass notification, camera systems and District-wide digital signage. Naperville 203 is the only K-12 District in the country to have a 2 week long, end-end network security audit performed by the National CyberSecurity Assessments and Technical Services (NCATS) team of the US Department of Homeland Security.
- Comprised of two separate data centers as well as small, school and building based servers this team provides dedicated first level IT support assigned to each school with centralized second level engineering capabilities for advanced project work and final level troubleshooting. Asset acquisition/vendor management as well as telecommunications and low voltage product engineering for student/staff safety systems are also provided.
Applications and Data Management
The district utilizes a variety of enterprise level applications to manage its daily operations as well as retain data and documents for various state and federal reporting requirements. Most of these applications are hosted internally at the two District Datacenters with the remainder hosted by the vendors. Many of these applications are integrated with each other to transmit data between them on real-time, daily, and on-demand basis. Below are brief descriptions of District 203 key applications and their purposes.
Technology transforms learning environments in District 203.The Instructional Technology department works with the Learning Services department to effectively integrate technology tools and resources into the curriculum. To maximize this benefit, Technology Integration Specialists, who are certified teachers, help their fellow teachers bring technology into the classroom. They provide one-on-one assistance to individual teachers, grade level teams and content area teams in implementing the curriculum.
The goal of the Instructional Technology team is to provide technology tools, support and innovation for both students and teachers in the classroom. We do this by enabling the District's Mission and the iT203 Mission.
