Student Services Department
-
The Naperville Central Student Services staff are here to work with students and families as you navigate through your years as a Redhawk. We believe that the teamwork and collaboration between students, families and school professionals is essential for student success. The Student Services Department consists of a team of various professionals who work collaboratively to support students’ social-emotional, academic and personal growth, as well as post-secondary planning. Students are assigned to a School Counselor that will remain the same for their four years of high school and to one of the four Student Services teams based on their last name. The Student Services teams are each comprised of a Dean of Students, School Nurse, School Psychologist, School Social Worker and 3-4 School Counselors. The Student Services office is located in the flatwing just adjacent to the Learning Commons.
Here is a brief synopsis of the key roles and responsibilities of the various professionals in Student Services:
- School Counselors provide education and support to students in three different areas: academic, social emotional, and post-secondary skill development, readiness and planning. During students’ four years of high school they will meet with our School Counselors for counseling curriculum lessons and individual planning for course selection and post-secondary planning.
- School Social Workers assist students with personal and social emotional needs that affect their progress or functioning at school through student support groups and individual counseling. School social workers have a high level of expertise in assisting students with personal and emotional concerns, as well as crisis intervention.
- School Psychologists are the “learning experts” in our department. They help identify strengths and opportunities for growth when students experience struggles and lead in the development of intervention strategies when necessary to support students. They also assist students experiencing personal and emotional concerns on an individual basis and through student support groups.
- School Nurses are responsible for any health/medical concerns a student may have that impact their day here at NCHS. They provide support to students and families navigating short or long-term medical needs. The Health Office is located just adjacent to the Student Services office in the flatwing.
- Student Advocacy Specialists focus on supporting growth in student behavior and increased student school engagement. They incorporate restorative and transformational behavioral and social-emotional skill development, practices and services in their work with students, while supporting teachers in incorporating inclusive practices.
- Deans of Students are responsible for working with students and families on attendance, conflict resolution, behavioral or disciplinary issues, problem-solving and safety. The Deans also coordinate parking and locker assignments. Our Deans are a great resource if you have concerns and are not sure where to go.
- School Resource Officers are members of the Naperville Police Department serving in schools as part of the collaboration between District 203 and NPD. They focus on safety and security, as well as serving as engaging in mentoring, teaching and building relationships with our students, staff, and families to support a positive learning environment.
Students and families are encouraged to contact any member of their student’s Student Services team for assistance with questions or concerns at any time.
