    National School Lunch Program

Feeding the Future with Healthy School Lunches

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a federal initiative that helps public schools serve healthy, affordable meals to students. Every school day, the program offers children nutritious, low-cost or free lunches. Launched in 1946 when President Harry Truman signed the National School Lunch Act, the NSLP ensures that millions of kids have access to balanced meals while at school.

    School Breakfast Program

The School Breakfast Program (SBP) is a federally assisted meal program operating in public schools. School districts that choose to participate in the Program must serve breakfast meals meeting Federal nutrition requirements, and offer free or reduced price breakfasts to all eligible children. The SBP started in 1966 as a pilot project, and was made a permanent entitlement program by Congress in 1975.
