Health Technician Roles and Responsibilities

Clinical/Assistance under the Direction of a Certificated School Nurse
- Provides first aid treatment including emergency care.
- Assists with vision and hearing screening and other screenings as directed.
- Promotes sound health practices.
- Reports communicable diseases in school population.
- Reports suspected child abuse to supervising nurse.
- Carries out technical procedures for students with special health care needs within scope of first aid and inservice training.
- Oversees students self-administering medication in health office.
- Reports concerns regarding student’s medications to supervising nurse.
- Assists with collection and maintenance of health records and data, including data entry.
- Assists with preparing weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
- Initiates accident/incident reports.
- Follows building and District procedure for daily absence reporting.
- Inventories and maintains health office supplies.
- Appropriately refers questions regarding Health Services procedures to the supervising school nurse.
- Refers staff concerns and inquiries regarding student health to supervising school nurse.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health related issues.
- Assists the supervising nurse in clinics and other school programs such as Kindergarten Preview and Puberty programs.
- Health technicians are certified in first aid, CPR and AED usage.
- Health technicians may also be certified in vision and hearing screening.
