Emergency Response in 203
Naperville 203 utilizes a version of the nationally recognized Standard Response Protocol, which replaces confusing action terms such as Lockdown, Soft Lockdown and Hard Lockdown. These terms may lead staff, students and parents to be confused in an emergency. The following are the standard responses in 203.
Position of Safety - Used when there is an active threat of violence in the school building
Secure Building - Used when conditions inside the school are safer than outside, such as trouble neighborhood or police activity
Hold in Place - Used when there is a need to restrict movement inside a school, such as a medical emergency
Evacuate - Used whenever it is determined to be safer outside the school rather than inside
Shelter in Place - Used when weather or other conditions require relocating within the school
Response Training in 203
This is much broader than traditional safety training. While we conduct safety drills and align safety training with ALICE strategies, our training also provides teachers and staff with tools to create a welcoming environment within our classrooms.
