Visioning and Process
Last school year in January, February, and April our district embarked on a journey to develop a comprehensive Profile of a Learner using the Battelle for Kids Portrait of a Graduate process. This research-based framework identifies the competencies students need for their future. Over the course of four days, a dedicated Profile Design Team came together, consisting of students, guardians, community members, staff, and administrators.
Collaborative Effort
The collaborative effort involved in this process was integral to its success. By engaging a diverse group of stakeholders, we ensured that the resulting Profile reflects our community's unique values and aspirations.
The process included:
- Visioning Sessions: Stakeholders discussed the future of education and the skills our students will need.
- Data-Driven Discussions: Participants reviewed data and trends related to education, workforce needs, and community priorities.
- Collaborative Workshops: Through these workshops, participants worked together to define and refine the competencies.
- Facilitated Conversations: Professional facilitators guided the discussions to build consensus.
- Drafting and Refining: Initial versions of the competencies and descriptors were created and refined based on feedback.
Roles and Rationale
The Profile Design Team included students, guardians, community members, staff, and administrators, each bringing valuable perspectives to the table. The rationale for this work is rooted in our commitment to preparing students not only for academic success but also for personal and professional fulfillment. By defining these competencies, we aim to equip our students with the skills they need to navigate and succeed in an ever-evolving world.
