Jay Wachtel Named Principal of Naperville North High School
We are thrilled to announce that Jay Wachtel has been approved by the Board of Education as Naperville North High School's permanent principal, effective immediately. Wachtel, a dedicated member of the Naperville North community since 2002, brings extensive experience and a deep commitment to the school, making him exceptionally qualified to lead during this transitional period.
Wachtel has served Naperville North in multiple roles over the years, including Business teacher, Career and Technical Education Department Chair, and Assistant Principal of Operations. He has also twice stepped in as Interim Principal, most recently during the 2024-2025 academic year. His leadership and dedication to student success have made him a valued member of the Naperville 203 community.
A seasoned educator, Wachtel began his teaching career at Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colorado, before spending three years at Libertyville High School in the northern suburbs. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Business Education from Illinois State University, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Northern Illinois University, and a Master of Arts in Global Studies in Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Beyond his professional achievements, Wachtel is deeply connected to the Naperville community. He and his wife, Jen, reside in Naperville and are proud parents of Naperville North graduates Megan and Jack. Outside of school, he enjoys cycling and spending time in downtown Chicago.
The selection process for Naperville North's next principal was a collaborative effort, with students, families, and staff playing a crucial role. Through surveys, listening sessions, and interview panels, stakeholders had the opportunity to provide input, ensuring the decision reflected the needs of the school community.
