Naperville 203 has launched a community engagement piece to amplify our Optimistic School Community series focusing on wellness (social, emotional, and physical) and appreciation for self, others, and the world around us. Our vision is to have a positive resource library submitted from our community, for our community.

This simple and quick 5-finger breathing technique is a great one to help you stay healthy and keep calm in stressful situations.
Begin with your hands up, parallel to one another (about 3-6 inches apart), fingers spread wide, and palms facing each other.
Take one deep breath in and on the exhale put your thumbs together. Keeping your thumbs together, take another deep breath, and on the exhale put your pointer fingers together. Continue this for three more breaths, putting your middle fingers, ring fingers, and pinky fingers together consecutively. Once you have completed the five breaths, all five fingers should be touching.
This is a great technique to do several times a day, consistently each and every day. It gives you a break in your hectic life, allowing you the opportunity to relieve a little stress with five simple breaths.
What is also beneficial about it is that once you do this consistently your brain begins to associate your fingers being together in that position with your body being relaxed. So the next time you are about to enter a stressful situation, all you will need to do is place your fingers together to calm yourself down.
