NCHS Named 2024 National Blue Ribbon School
Naperville 203’s Naperville Central High School Announced as
a U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon School
Naperville, IL - U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 356 schools as the 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools. This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.
“Naperville Central is a remarkable community of dedicated educators who work tirelessly and genuinely care about the success of their students, both inside and outside the classroom,” said Jackie Thornton, Principal. “We are deeply grateful for the strong family and community partnerships that contribute to the achievements of every Redhawk. Being part of Naperville School District 203, a community committed to continuous improvement and providing the right balance of challenge and support, ensures our students are well-prepared for high school and beyond. I am especially thankful to U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and the committee for recognizing the hard work and success of our students and educators by naming Naperville Central a National Blue Ribbon School.”
The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools reflect the full diversity of American education and serve students from all backgrounds. While awardees represent a wide array of schools, they share common traits. National Blue Ribbon Schools are led by leaders who articulate a clear vision of instructional excellence and uphold high standards. They showcase effective teaching methods and offer robust professional development for their staff. Data-driven instruction is a hallmark, and there is a concerted effort to ensure every student succeeds. Collaboration among families, communities, and educators is a key component of their success.
“We are honored to have Naperville Central High School named a Blue Ribbon School,” said Superintendent Dan Bridges. “Our district has now earned 12 National Blue Ribbon School awards since 2002. This recognition celebrates the dedication of our educators, families, and communities in creating safe, welcoming schools where students thrive in challenging and engaging environments.”
The Department recognizes all schools based on student performance data including assessment results, student subgroup performance and graduation rates. Schools are recognized in both or either of two performance categories:
- Exemplary High Performing Schools: These schools are among the top performers in their state as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
- Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools: These schools excel in narrowing achievement gaps between different student groups and the overall student body.
