  • Safety Discussions

Posted by Eric Decker on 4/17/2019

    Good afternoon Patriot Families,

Earlier this year we introduced our students and staff to the ALICE safety response through a presentation and brief discussions. Tomorrow and Thursday, classrooms will continue these discussions to increase familiarity and understanding of the ALICE response. The discussions will focus on effective strategies with an emphasis on exit locations for each environment the student is in each day. In addition, students will have the opportunity to visit the school’s dedicated rally point with their P.E. classes.

As a school community we are becoming proficient in this research based response strategy. Just as with a Fire drill, we know that frequent practice and repetition prepares us to respond in the event of an emergency.

If you need additional information, please visit the District’s safety section on the website. As always, feel free to contact the school administration to discuss this further.

Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping our school safe.

    Mr. Eric Decker
    Assistant Principal
    Jefferson Junior High

    Dear Families,

Tomorrow, students will begin taking the state mandated IAR testing. We want students to focus on demonstrating all they have learned so far. Please help by making sure that your student gets a full nights rest and a nutritious breakfast in the morning. Students will need to have their Chromebook fully charged and ear buds for the test. Once students are finished, they are allowed to free read a book. No electronic devices will be allowed for security purposes.

Make-up testing is never easy on the student. Please make every effort to have students in attendance and on time. Thank you for fostering a home environment where students consistently strive to do their best and value their educational opportunities.

    Thank you,
    Malee Farmer
    Assistant Principal

    Comienzan las pruebas IAR

    Estimadas familias,

We will begin state testing when we return from spring break. Jefferson is scheduled to take the new state test, Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR), on April 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The 8th grade students take an additional test, Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) on April 23rd. To minimize the impact on instruction, please try to make sure your student is in attendance on these days. If your student is ill, please make sure to call the student in. The student will be scheduled for a make-up test.

We appreciate your partnership in making sure students are ready for the test. Please make sure students get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast in the morning. The attached letters include more information.

  • Importance of Attendance

Posted by Megan Ptak on 3/5/2019

    Dear Jefferson Families,

As you know attending school regularly has a huge impact on a student’s academic success. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.

We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent—which means missing 18 or more days over the course of an entire school year. Research shows:

    • By 6th grade, chronic absence is a proven early warning sign for students at risk for dropping out of school.
    • By 9th grade good attendance can predict graduation rates even better than 8th grade test scores.

Absences can add up quickly. A child is chronically absent if he or she misses just two days every month! Clearly going to school regularly matters!

In an effort to support positive attendance, we are implementing a new award for exceptional attendance. This award is called “A+ Attendance”. It will be given out each trimester for students who have absences equaling 1 or less days that trimester.

Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:

    • Make sure your children keep a regular bedtime and establish a morning routine.
    • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
    • Ensure your children go to school every day unless they are truly sick
    • Avoid scheduling vacations or doctor’s appointments when school is in session.
    • Talk to teachers and counselors for advice if your children feel anxious about going to school.
    • Develop back up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, neighbor, or another parent to take your child to school.
    • If your student is sick and you are keeping them home, please contact out attendance line at 630-420-4747. When students are out, their parent/guardian must contact our office prior to 7:45am.

Let us know how we can best support you and your children so that they can show up for school on time every day. We want your child to be successful in school! If you have any questions or need more information please contact your child’s school counselor.

    Mrs. Megan Ptak, Principal
    Mrs. Malee Farmer, Assistant Principal
    Mr. Eric Decker. Assistant Principal

    Mrs. Megan Ptak, directora
    Mrs. Malee Farmer, subdirectora
    Mr. Eric Decker, subdirector

  • Digital Citzenship Reminder

Posted by Megan Ptak on 2/25/2019

    Dear Patriot Families,

After an incident last week, which required extensive time and manpower to investigate, we felt it important to remind our school community of the importance of talking to your children about the appropriate use of technology and responsible digital citizenship.

Each Jefferson student has signed an Acceptable Use Policy stating they understand that it is against district policy to access, submit, post, publish, text or display any defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, profane, obscene, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive, harassing, bullying or illegal activities. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action for any student who engages in such behavior.

The Jefferson administration would greatly appreciate your support by talking to your child about the importance of using their Chromebook for school use only, and to remind them their digital footprint can follow them for years to come.

As always, thank you for your support.

Strategic Blueprint

  • District 203’s FOCUS 2020 Strategic Blueprint

Posted by Superintendent Dan Bridges on 6/27/2014
FOCUS 2020 is the strategic plan for comprehensive improvement between 2014 and 2020, designed in response to community feedback, best practice, and a vision for the future. Ultimately, this blueprint will advance the fulfillment of the district’s mission.
FOCUS 2020’s foundation is the Future Focus Community Engagement process that occurred over the course of a year where hundreds of members from across the community provided feedback to the district leadership regarding areas such as facilities, finances, measuring student success, and programs of study. Learn more about Future Focus by clicking on the specific “Quick Link” to the left of this text.
The Blueprint includes four “Strategic Focus” areas, namely to:
    1. Design and implement effective practices that promote learning experiences for all.
    2. Foster a high-performance culture focused on student learning.
    3. Steward resources effectively to promote student learning.
    4. Effective communication and community relations.
Each Strategic Focus then establishes “Commitments.” These commitments are what the district leadership pledges to accomplish within a distinct timeframe. Each commitment then includes a detailed “Action Plan” which will be accessible by the public upon final draft.
District administrators provided an update on Blueprint Commitments to the Board of Education at the July 27, 2015 meeting.  To watch that presentation, please click here
