JJHS T203 Review

  • Clubs/Sports Pick-up Locations

Posted by Melinda Sherry on 11/2/2019

    Hello Patriot Families,

To improve the flow of traffic following afternoon events, we are asking families to utilize both pick-up lanes.  For each season, we will establish where each team will wait for pick-up as follows:

In the winter, Basketball will pick up at the South side of the building (Bauer Rd.); Wrestling and Cheerleaders will pick up on the East side (Front Door on Loomis).

In the spring, 8th grade track will pick up on the South side of the building and 7th grade track will pick up on the East side.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support as we improve our safety and efficiency during drop off and pick up times.

    Sincerely,

    Eric Decker

  • Career Day Volunteers Needed

Posted by Annette Herrera on 10/29/2019

    Dear Jefferson Junior High Parents,

We are partnering once again with Junior Achievement (JA) for the upcoming Career Day at Jefferson JHS. We would like to invite you (or a relative, colleague, friend) to participate as a classroom presenter for the 6th - 8th grade Career Day on Wednesday, November 6th. We are looking for all types of careers to share with the students! It is for the entire school so we need MANY speakers!

Presenters check-in at 7:30am. You will finish at 10:30am. Helpers will be available to walk you to the classrooms for set-up. The presentations take place in the classrooms with a teacher present at all times. You would speak to 3 different groups of students (approx. 20 students in each group). Each presentation will last 30 minutes, and the same presentation is given at each of the 3 sessions. Students travel to your classroom while you and the teacher remain in the room for all 3 sessions.
Students will choose the speaker topics that interest them the most and they are assigned to 3 presentations prior to the event.

    What is required?

    • An interest in sharing with students in a classroom setting. The students are really looking forward to hearing about different careers. Linda from JA can help you brainstorm ideas and/or create a framework for the talk.
    • Provide hands-on activity or something “engaging” for the students, rather than just lecturing (could be something to show, demonstrate, share, role-play, debate, build a model, design something, activity, etc.)
    • Talk about highs and lows of the career/industry for a realistic understanding of the profession/industry
    • What type of education/certification is needed to pursue career?
    • Career path available, types of jobs available
    • What is a typical day or week?
    • What personal interests and school strengths would be a good fit for the career?
    • You will see 3 groups of students that day. Each presentation is 30 minutes in length, and the same presentation may be given at each session. Students travel to your room, while you remain in your room for all of the sessions.
    • Comfortable talking to a group of students. A classroom teacher will always be present.
    • Ability to explain things in kid-friendly language is helpful! It does not need to be ‘formal’- you just want to make it engaging, get them talking, etc.

Please contact Linda Jonynas from Junior Achievement directly (not the school) to reserve a spot as soon as possible or for additional information. Please indicate in the email that you are volunteering for Jefferson JHS Career Day. She is coordinating all event speakers and communications. Linda’s contact information: Ljonynas@jachicago.org. You will receive a confirmation to acknowledge receipt of your email. If, for some reason you do not receive an acknowledgement, please send a follow-up email to her.
