About Home & School at JJHS

  • All parents with students attending JJHS are automatically members of the Home & School.  There are no dues.  In 2023-2024, we welcome you to attend our monthly meetings in person or via Zoom. Please check the website calendar for specific dates.   

    Our primary fundraiser is the Annual Fundraiser, which takes place in September.  Proceeds from the fundraiser go towards supplemental educational experiences and equipment for Jefferson students and staff.

    Committee Chair Job Descriptions 2023-2024:

    Annual Fundraiser/Magazine Drive - (Fall) Acts as a liaison between the JJHS Assistant Principal and the Magazine Drive Company to publicize the fundraiser to JJHS families via Talk203s, the JJHS website, and the H&S Facebook Page.  Should be present during lunch hour prize days for 3 days during the fundraiser and recruit 3 additional volunteers to help distribute prizes during the prize days.  The Magazine Drive Company tallies all sales, compiles results, and brings prizes to the school for distribution. Responsibilities may change slightly if a different annual fundraiser is chosen by the district. 

    Directory Spot (Fall)– Obtain a download of the school database to set up the JJHS Online Directory for the current school year. Respond to inquiries throughout the year if people need help accessing the directory.

    Patriots Night Out (Ongoing)– Research, plan and execute various smaller-scale fundraisers including dine out nights and other events such as trash bin cleaning, movie theaters, indoor golf, e-sports center and other entertainment venues throughout the year.  Consult JJHS calendar for possible conflicts before scheduling. Confirm that checks for all fundraisers have been received by the school office. Complete paperwork for check deposits and give to the treasurer.

    Staff Hospitality (Ongoing)– Work with the principal to develop a plan to support teachers & staff with meals or snacks during Conferences, as well as at the beginning and/or end of the school year. 

    Volunteer List (Fall) – Collect volunteer contact information and maintain a current list of potential volunteers to share with Committee Chairs & school personnel. Create Sign Up Genius and post on social media and in Talk203 as needed to recruit volunteers for activities including Bunker, hearing and vision screenings,school supply distribution, and Curriculum Night, and also to collect donations for holiday Bunker and winter wear drive.

    Historian (Ongoing) – Collect and post photos in the 2 display cases on the 1st floor near Jefferson Square.

    Staff Appreciation – (Ongoing) - Celebrate staff and administration during professional days including Principal's Day, Assistant Principals Day, Educational Support Professionals Day, Administrative Professionals Day, Teacher Appreciation Day/Week and National School Nurse Day by providing a gift, card, balloons, goodie bag or meal. 

    Health & Safety (Fall): Vision & Hearing. Recruit volunteers to monitor students during screenings at JJHS for 2 days in the Fall.  One is a full school day and one is a 1/2 day. 

    Nominations – (Spring) The Nominating committee includes the nominations chair(s), president and principal. The committee reviews all written nominations received and decides on a slate of officers to be presented to the Board for a vote.  The nominations committee also presents nominations for the chairpersons of each Standing Committee. The nominations committee chair(s) should reach out to all feeder elementary schools with information about open positions and make an effort to obtain volunteers from each feeder school.

    Spirit Wear (Ongoing)–Work with spiritwear vendor to determine items to sell. Promote website in Talk203 emails and on social media, and to feeder schools at the holidays and the end of the year. Coordinate sales & distribution of items (note that spiritwear chair is NOT responsible for PE uniform sales).

    School Supplies -  (Spring & Fall) Obtain supply lists from the school and coordinate with supply kit vendor in the Spring. Recruit volunteers to help with distribution on preview/locker jam day shortly before school starts.

    Front Entrance - (Ongoing) Work to fill and maintain pots at the front entrance.
