Dear Highlands Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021school year!
I hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer. We look forward to a new school year of learning with you and your children! As you know, we will begin the school year on September 1, 2020 within an eLearning environment. Starting the year within this new learning environment will require a stronger partnership than ever before between home and school. During this first eLearning phase, it is imperative that students and parents feel comfortable with the eLearning format, expectations and tools. It will be our first priority to support each student in building relationships with their teacher(s) and peers and finding ease in accessing learning each day. We look forward to making those connections!
To assist families and students in making seamless connections to staff and the learning content, this year all teachers and families will be utilizing Canvas©; a web-based learning management system. Each teacher will create a Canvas “landing page” containing links to all lessons and information that support eLearning. More information will be forthcoming regarding directions for parent access and new upgrades to the system that improve ease of use.
Classroom teacher assignments for Kindergarten through fifth grade will be posted through Infinite Campus on Tuesday, August 25th at 3:00 p.m. Parents will access their child’s classroom assignment via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Visit the District website (http://www.Naperville203.org ) and click on the Campus Portal link on the left side. If you have not already signed up for an Infinite Campus account, you can complete this step now. Follow the prompts to create your parent account. If you have difficulty with your account, contact the help desk by email at email@example.com . While it will be new for some of you, we believe you will find the Parent Portal easy to navigate.
Physical examinations are still required for students who are entering kindergarten as we open in an eLearning model. Children in kindergarten and grade two must also show proof of a dental examination. Children entering kindergarten must show proof of a complete vision exam by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist prior to school entrance. Students new to Illinois need to present evidence of a physical exam within the past year. Children entering kindergarten must also have a verified birth certificate. These requirements must be met by the first day of school.
Regarding Transportation Information for 2020-21: Although bus transportation will not be utilized during initial stages of eLearning, once transportation is available during Phase 2, Hybrid or In Person learning phases of our Return to Learn Plan, information regarding bus assignments, routes, bus stop locations and timeframes will be provided in the Campus Parent Portal (http://www.Naperville203.org) At that time, if you need assistance regarding transportation information, you may call the Transportation Department at 630-420-6464.
Thank you for providing all required registration information. This information is critical in order for us to maintain accurate records of important information. If you have had any changes over the summer months such as telephone numbers or contact information, please be sure to update that information on the Campus Parent Portal http://www.Naperville203.org. If you have a change in address, you will need to go to the Centralized Enrollment Office located at the Auditorium entrance at Naperville Central High School.
The summer mailing documents that follow this introduction letter provide additional information regarding the beginning of the school year. Please review them and contact our office with any questions you may have.
Enjoy the remainder of your summer!
