Rangineers STEM Program for 4th & 5th Graders
Ranch View is continuing to provide students with opportunities to develop skills related to science, technology, engineering and math. Through our before school STEM program, select 4th and 5th grade students will be invited to participate our two Phase program. Phase I is a team experience during the first half of the school year which students work collaboratively to produce a Lego robot which will eventually participate in a cross school competition. Students will be involved in the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge. This program introduces young people, (grades 4-8), to the fun and excitement of science and technology. Teams, composed of up to 10 students will be coached by Ranch View staff as they work together to program an autonomous robot (using the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface and create innovative solutions to a problem.
Phase II is an opportunity for fourth and fifth grade students in the second half of the year to collaboratively explore and discover MakerSpace and LEGO Robotics activities. This program will run on Mondays OR Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00am for 3-6 weeks depending on the number of students that enroll.
- Phase I runs from September through December.
- Phase II will run from February through April.
Our mission in providing this opportunity is to support those fourth and fifth grade students who not only show great interest in STEM, but who would benefit from additional opportunities to nurture their interests while growing in their ability to function as a member of a collaborative team.
