Watch D.O.G.S.

  • Watch Dogs is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country.  Since the program’s creation in 1998, more than 6,450 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own.  Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program.

The goal of the Watch D.O.G.S. program is to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. The program benefits include:

    • Students gaining positive male role models.
    • Fathers getting a glimpse of their students’ everyday world and learn about the increasingly complex challenges and decisions today’s youth are facing.

Watch Dog national resources describe the watch dog day as performing a variety of tasks including assisting with supervision in the lunch room and on the playground, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on school work, and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well.

At Scott, our Watch D.O.G. day begins with a check in between 0800 and 0815, followed by participation in the morning announcements. You will then follow the schedule as provided.  This will include time in your children’s classrooms, as well as time in each of the other grade levels.  You will also eat lunch and go to recess with your children, while also assisting with recess supervision of other grade levels.  Your day will end at 1:00 with a survey as provided by the national program, as well as some other duties to help us with the program.

We hope you will volunteer as a Watch D.O.G at Scott school.  Your presence and mentorship will make it a better place for all!
