Jazz Bands

The Jazz Bands are open to all band students in grades 6-8.  The Intermediate jazz band is open to all concert band instruments, the Advanced jazz band is open to traditional jazz instrumentation (saxophone, trumpet, trombone) by audition.

The jazz program beings in early December when audition music is made available to interested students. Auditions for the are held in mid-December with both the Intermediate and Advanced Jazz Band beginning rehearsals in early January. Rehearsals are held twice each week after school, there is no cost to be in a Jazz Band. Both Jazz Bands run from January through spring break.

The Intermediate Jazz Band is a great place for new jazzers to explore the basic elements of jazz and improvisation, no experience is necessary here for brass and woodwind players! The rhythm section (guitars/ drums/ piano) is determined by audition.  The Advanced Jazz Band is typically composed of older players with some experience, though placement is strictly based on the audition. Both bands perform in the community throughout the school year at events such as spirit assembly's, The Patio, 8th Grade Celebration and the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast.
