Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books is a literacy club for 5th graders that meets several times a month on Wednesday afternoons at Washington Jr. High School. We normally meet in room 203 (Mrs. Paige's room) from 2:30-3:15. The purpose of the club is reading and discussing quality literature that is found on District 203’s Battle of the Books List. The list contains 40 titles that have been chosen by teachers, librarians and the staff at Anderson’s Book Store. The list contains literature from various genres and is a great source of independent reading material for 5th grade students.

Meetings will consist of book talks, friendly games, mock battles, and fun that is certain to come with sharing great books together. We have all of the titles in Washington’s LC, and they are also available at local libraries and bookstores. Students need to come prepared to discuss the assigned book each meeting.
