About the Mill Street Band Program

Welcome to the Mill Street Band Program! Mill Street School has a 4^th Grade Band and a 5^th Grade Band.

4^th Grade Band meets in full rehearsal once a week on TUESDAYS. 4^th Grade Band members also have individual rotating lesson groups that are scheduled on Monday OR Tuesday in addition to the full rehearsal.

5^th Grade band meets in full rehearsal once a week on WEDNESDAYS. Individual rotating lesson groups also are scheduled for all band students on either Wednesday OR Friday.

The bands perform in formal evening concerts in late fall/winter and twice in the spring. In addition students perform assembly concerts for the school during the daytime both in December and again in the spring. The final performance of the year for both 4^th and 5^th Grade Band takes place in Downtown Naperville at the Municipal Band Shell. The 4^th and 5^th Grade Band members take a field trip to the Band Shell to perform a daytime concert for their peers and the community.

Curriculum work is centered on the student band lesson book material but is also supplemented with various levels of rhythm charts, scale sheets, additional music and worksheets. Full ensemble music is provided through band sheet music and ensemble books.

Every member of the band is a vital part of the team. We rely on every student to come to lessons and full rehearsal prepared with all of the necessary supplies. It is each student’s responsibility to come to lessons on time with their materials and to practice the music and assignments every week.
