      Dear Parents and Guardians:

As the 2019-2020 school gets underway, I am proud of the advancements we make in preserving the safety and security of our students.  We continue to be grateful for our partnership with local police departments to ensure the safety of our students.  As always, the safety and wellbeing of our school community is our top priority.

Illinois State Law requires schools to conduct fire evacuation drills, bus evacuation drills, law enforcement drills to address a shooting incident, and severe weather drills.  Each building conducts these safety drills throughout the year to ensure our students and staff know the procedures in the event of an emergency.  Practice and preparation are key to all safety response procedures and are aligned with best practices according to local, state and Federal agencies.

Since last year, Naperville 203 has implemented ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) and this approach is an alternative to the more passive lockdown method by empowering individuals to make critical decisions during a crisis. The decision to implement ALICE was made in partnership with law enforcement officials at the local and state level.  To learn more about the ALICE approach, please visit www.alicetraining.com

In conjunction with ALICE and school safety best practices, Naperville 203 has implemented other safety initiatives including building modifications; School Resource Officers serving as onsite coordination with local law enforcement; physical environment enhancements; IT threat management systems, and continuous weather related drills to prepare our students in the event of an emergency.

This collaborative approach helps our students feel safe and secure, and most importantly empowered and prepared.  Together, we can make a difference in the safety and security of our students.  Thank you for continuing these conversations at home.

      Sincerely,

      Dan Bridges
