Central Grad Helps Pass Bill To Amend Illinois School Code
Braden Hajer, a 2021 Naperville Central graduate, drafted, advocated for, and helped pass a bill that requires every public high school’s curriculum to include a unit of instruction on media literacy.
Braden worked to find legislators to sponsor the bill in both the State house and senate, testified in support of the bill multiple times, and rallied for Illinois citizens to express their views on the bill.
The result: every public high school student in the state of Illinois now has the opportunity to learn more about accessing information, analyzing and evaluating media messages, creating media, reflecting on media consumption, and social responsibility.
The entire process started right here at Naperville in Braden’s Humanities Capstone class, where he asked the question, “Can misinformation be used for a positive purpose?”
