Message from Superintendent Bridges - June 1, 2020

June 1, 2020

Dear Naperville 203 Community:

Racism has no place in our society. Yet, it exists. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others force us to confront the ills of racism head on. Naperville 203 stands with our communities of color, particularly the Black community, in our commitment to eradicate racism.

As educators, we are uniquely positioned to serve as allies and advocates. We will continue to have open, honest conversations about racism and elevate the voices and concerns of our communities of color. We thank those who previously have called our attention to racial inequities that currently exist in our system. We heard you. We are working to ensure that our curriculum and instruction represent and affirm diverse people, cultures, experiences, and perspectives. We know that everyone benefits from a diverse workforce, so we have enhanced our recruitment and hiring practices. We acknowledge that we have a lot of work to do and will continue to strive to make meaningful change in our community.

We are up for the challenge because our students’ lives depend on it. We extend an olive branch to the community for your support because we are stronger, together.

Sincerely,

Dan Bridges

Superintendent
