Good news shared at the Board of Education meeting included:
National Merit Corporation announced that 48 students from Naperville 203 are Semi-Finalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Students have the opportunity to continue in the competition for scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
Twenty-one high school students from across Illinois will meet as members of the Illinois State Board of Education’s 2019-20 Student Advisory Council. The council includes 11 new and 10 returning members from across the state including Naperville North Senior Nicole Tong.
Dr. Christine Igoe, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, presented the early childhood programming update to the Board of Education.
The Board voted to approve the proposed intergovernmental agreement for a new synthetic turf field in Knoch Park. This IGA will allow the Naperville Park District to construct an excellent synthetic turf field in Knoch Park with Naperville Community Unit School District contributing 43% of the project costs for the synthetic turf field and support amenities. The Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners approved the proposed IGA at their September 12, 2019 meeting.
The Board conducted a second reading and approved changes to Policy 5.220. The existing language in Policy 5.220 needed to be updated as presented in order for Board Policy to match the new pay rate for long-term substitute teachers.
