As Naperville 203 jumpstarts the 2019 Business Bootcamp summer school course, students are squeezing the most out of the program; in more than one way!
Madison Junior High School kicked off the month of July by hosting its very first “Lemonade Wars” competition. After being divided into small groups, the “When Life Gives You Lemons”, “Sweet n’ Sour”, and “Lemonade Promenade” businesses began developing unique lemonade stand ideas that they would market, manage, and sell to the Naperville 203 community. Each business established stock in which they, their families, and friends could invest. At the end of their sales, proceeds from the stands would go back to each group’s shareholders.
Business Bootcamp students were filled with excitement when members of the community came flooding to Madison Junior High to purchase cool summertime refreshments and other treats from their lemonade stands.
“Making real lemonade for people to buy makes me feel like a 30 year-old business person,” said Sweet n’ Sour team member and incoming sixth grader Aarav. “I learned that there are a lot of ups and downs in business, and team work is really important.”
After their two days of sales concluded, the young entrepreneurs presented the strengths, weaknesses, and finances of their small businesses to Naperville 203 community members and the wonderful instructors who assisted them through their business ventures. “When Life Gives You Lemons”, “Sweet n’ Sour”, and “Lemonade Promenade” proceeded to explain the uniqueness and structure of each of their miniature corporations.
Naperville 203 is delighted by the success of the Business Bootcamp summer school class, each lemonade stand, and the students who ran them.
