Naperville 203 Awarded Amazon Future Engineer Robotics Grant with FIRST
Naperville Community Unit School District 203 is proud to announce a grant from the Amazon Future Engineering Robotics program with FIRST for robotics program registrations to start robotics clubs and an additional $10,000 for computer science education. The grant enhances the current curriculum students participate in by providing engaging hands-on learning in computer science, engineering, and teamwork.
The Amazon and FIRST grant supports the District’s STEM guiding principles, which includes providing equitable access to STEM opportunities and developing environments where students use their knowledge to design, create, and make. Grant funding will support expansion of the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) after school program and District Computer Science initiatives. A student field trip to an Amazon fulfillment center is also included in the grant.
Currently a few Naperville 203 schools participate in the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program with Naperville Education Foundation (NEF) funding. NEF’s mission is to encourage creativity, innovation and excellence. This Amazon grant will expand elementary participation in the FLL program. There are three components of the FIRST program that support Naperville 203 curricula including robotics focused problem solving, Core Values that align with social emotional learning, and research related to developing an innovative solution to a problem.

Amazon Future Engineer is a four-part, childhood-to-career program that works to inspire and educate 10 million children and young adults each year from underrepresented and underserved communities to pursue careers in the fast-growing field of computer science and coding.
