Highlights from the October 1, 2018 Board of Education meeting include:
Superintendent Dan Bridges Announced Naperville North High School named a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School.
Principal Brian Valek presented the School Improvement Plan for Kennedy Junior High School and updated the Board of Education on its goals including literacy, math and social emotional.
Jayne Willard and Jill Hlavacek presented an updated on Career & Technical Education courses and proposed course updates for the 2019-20 school year.
The Board of Education reviewed the Master Facility Plan.
The Board of Education approved the Waiver of Claims Agreement
The Board of Education discussed without action the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) 2018 Resolutions Committee Report. Board Member Fielden gave an update on the proposed resolutions coming from IASB. There was a discussion amongst the Board of Education members regarding resolutions focusing on Student Safety & Protection. The IASB considers resolutions put forth by school boards throughout the state. IASB then decides which of these resolutions should be presented to lawmakers, who can then present a bill to the legislature if they choose to, which then may or may not get passed by the state legislature. There is no proposal in front of the Naperville 203 Board of Education regarding arming teachers and/or staff in schools.
