The Naperville Education Foundation’s (NEF) WOW Prize Patrol was on the move for the third year in a row!
NEF surprised teachers, staff and students throughout the District with four WOW Prizes. The third annual WOW Prize recognizes the applications that stood out the most in the NEF Annual Grant Program.
This year NEF presented WOW Prizes in STEM, Social & Emotional Learning, Cultural Studies, and Physical Health.
Melissa Soline, Dual Language Community Fair: The Dual Language Community Fair will bring together the community to celebrate bilingualism, and foster a stronger sense of community among dual language families. Soline received $3,712 to be used for a cultural performance, T-shirts and exhibits for the event.
David Cleveland and Kathy Mueller, Elmwood Elementary School, Get Off Your Buns and Run: Get Off Your Buns and Run will be offered to all Naperville 203 students K-5 grade and will offer run training in the summer months. It will give students the opportunity to learn how to run properly and safely and teach them about healthy living. They will receive $1,372.44 to purchase T-shirts and mileage club metals for the kids.
Mike Klick and Alma Tan Torres, KJHS and Connections, Taking Inventory: Taking Inventory will teach multi-needs students real world work skills that will allow them to be more employable in the highly technical workplace of today. This project will affect more than 2oo students at various grade levels from 6th grade to post high school. Their check for $2,541.03 will be used to purchase hand held bar code scanners and thermal barcode printers for KJHS and Connections.
Lauren and John Pollack, NCHS, Kids Care to Help: Kids Care to Help is a volunteer program that pairs students with retirement center residents who wish to learn how to use their smart phones, tablets and computers. Their check for $1,015 will be used to will be used for a website builder fee and for T-shirts for volunteers.
