Mill Street One Book One School

Mill Street Elementary students are raising money for a school in the Congo as they read the story of a captive gorilla.
They recently held an assembly to announce this year’s read as part of One Book, One School, The One and Only Ivan. The children’s novel written by Katherine Applegate is based on a true story about a captive gorilla from the Congo who helps a baby elephant escape a circus-themed mall.  In addition to reading the book, students will break into teams to raise money for Ilima Primary School in the Congo.
Athletes from Naperville North High School, Buster the NNHS Mascot, and even Ivan himself were on hand to get the students excited about this year’s book.
The entire school will be reading the children’s classic at the same time.  One Book, One School aims to build a lifelong passion for reading in children and to promote a closer bond between home and school.  Each student received a copy of the book, which is theirs to keep, courtesy of Mill Street Home and School Association and the Naperville Education Foundation.  #WeAre203
