Naperville 203 Purchases Electric Buses

Some Naperville 203 students will be riding electric buses to school next year.

The Naperville 203 Board of Education approved the purchase of four electric buses at its Monday, March 20 meeting, marking the first time in history that the school district has purchased non-fueled buses.

The purchase of the four standard size, 71-passenger electric buses aligns with Naperville 203’s strategic blueprint initiative to reduce the district’s carbon footprint. Earlier this year, Naperville 203 purchased four electric cars for its Driver’s Education program.

Naperville 203 replaces a varying amount of school buses each year, based on the number of miles and hours each bus has been driven. This year there are 17 total buses on cycle for replacement, four of which will be electric.
