    Highlands Heroes – Saint Baldricks
Calling all heroes! The Highlands Heroes Saint Baldricks team is now forming!  All students are welcome to join us on our journey to help fund research for childhood cancers.  Over the last five years, we’ve raised over $95,000. The team is in its sixth year and looking to add members.  This year, our fundraising has taken on new meaning as we are honoring one of our own students at Highlands. Our first grade friend, Jaxon K, was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor in the fall, and after having a kidney removed and undergoing treatment, he is currently in remission!  If any of your students (boy or girl!) is interested in joining, you can visit our team at and click on “Join Team”.  We would love to have you!  Our shaving event is on Saturday, March 23rd (yes, Spring Break) through the Naperville Public Service Event.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Kresl, this year’s team captain! Open House: Wednesday, February 27th from 6:00-7:30PM

Thank you for your patience as we searched for a date to reschedule Open House.  Open House will be on Wednesday, February 27th from 6:00-7:30PM.  Due to the reschedule, our drum circle leader will only be available to lead drumming in the music room from 6:45-7:30PM.

This is truly an “open-house” so feel free to come anytime from 6:00-7:30pm. There is no set schedule of events for the evening.  Please come and go throughout the building and classrooms as you please.

Informational Meeting for Cultural Kaleidoscope Presenters
There will be a Meeting for all those interested in presenting their culture at Highlands’ International Night on Thursday, February 21st from 2:30-4:00 in the Teacher’s Lounge.

We will be discussing how best to feature our countries, interactive displays, and presentations.  We will have sample displays and discuss the format of the event.   We will also have families who are presenting the same countries get together and discuss dividing the presentations.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to present, we will be sending out suggestions for displays and requests for information on your presentations.  Please contact Kerry Malinger for additional information.

Highlands’ Cultural Kaleidoscope will be held the evening of April 25th.

If you would like to showcase your heritage or would like to join a few families to feature a country, please join us at the discussion meeting or contact Kerry Malinger at 630-710-0602 or

    Music News
Don’t forget to save the date for the second and fifth grade concerts.

Both are on the evening of Thursday, March 14th. The second grade concert is at 6pm and the fifth grade concert is at 7:15pm. Students should arrive to their classrooms fifteen minutes prior to their concert start time.

    Highlands Choir-Spring Semester
Highlands choir, Nothin’ But Treble, will be performing a concert after school on Wednesday, March 6th at 3:15pm.  We are hoping to have a small reception after the concert as a celebration of our success this year.  A letter and food permission slip will be going home to parents next week.  We will also be having an optional extra rehearsal next week on Wednesday, February 20th at 7:30am. Door 10 will be open at 7:20am for students to enter the building.  This is an extra rehearsal since we don’t have our usual Monday morning rehearsal next week due to Presidents Day.  If students are in other clubs/commitments on Wednesday mornings, they should attend that instead of choir.
