    Dear Maplebook Families,

What an eventful week that ended with a very successful Ice Cream Social. It was nice to see our families outside and enjoying the outstanding weather. Thank you to Sarah LaPorte, Rachael Rhea, and the many volunteers that worked to make this a wonderful experience for our Wildcat families.

As previously addressed through messages from District 203 and yesterday from our school, SHIELD testing for COVID 19 will be provided to all students unless parents opted out their children.  Students whose parents have not opted out of testing, will participate in this saliva collection/spit test procedure once per week beginning Wednesday, September 29th.  Please see the news item on our homepage for more information.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebook Families,

Our students performed very well during the first drills of the year. Teachers facilitated a discussion prior to and after the drill. Talking points included actions to take to get to a designated safety area and how responders and other adults help us remain safe.

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.  I know that you like me will never forget where you were on September 11, 2001. Amidst the tragedy, there was courage, kindness and setting aside differences, all very important lessons I encourage us to continue to reflect on and engage in conversations with family.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook Families,

We’ve launched!  I hope your children had a great first full week and found their stride. By nearly all accounts it was a very good first full week, students were learning, we brought back snacks at school and kicked off gifted testing.

We consider the success of our school year as the result of a combined effort of our teachers, staff, families and of course our students.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebook Families,

We had a fantastic first couple of days of in-person learning this year. Our teachers and staff were ready and excited to welcome our students back to school.

That being said, we always look at our procedures to ensure that we are doing the best we can. One procedure we are looking at closely is snacking. We understand its importance and  are looking to see how we can safely ensure that all of our students can have a snack regardless of the weather. We recognize that there are some changes to the most recent health and safety guidelines that offer flexibility to create procedures that allow snacks for students. We need to ensure that any building-wide changes we make are able to be consistent throughout our building. For this reason, we are currently exploring different ways that this may be implemented for all students. We will communicate to all families of any changes early next week. We thank you in advance for your patience.

We would like to thank our H&S volunteers thus far that have helped us kick start the school year to an amazing start. They have helped us successfully distribute school supplies before the school year began, welcomed our new families at new family orientation, distributed yearbooks, were gracious enough to have a welcome back breakfast for teachers and have helped our front office as a greeter.

We thank our entire Maplebrook community for your continued support of our teachers and staff. We continue to feel fortunate to be part of such a caring community.

    Maplebrook Families,

We’re excited and continue to get our school ready for our Wildcats to return to school. The building and our grounds are really coming together to welcome our Wildcats back into the building.

Last week, I announced that we have some new team members joining the team, this week, I am pleased to announce that we have a staff member that has taken on a new role. Mrs. Megan Clow will be Maplebrook's Learning Support Coach. This position was left vacant when Mrs. Becky Puz retired at the end of the school year. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Clow in this role.

I hope you and your family continue to enjoy the warm weather and have some fun. If you are like me you have already marked your calendar for August 19 and have begun the countdown to school. I for one can't wait !

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Maplebrook families,

It’s July ! It is hard to believe that June is over and we are looking at August just 3 weeks away. I hope that you and your family have had some time to recharge and relax with loved ones.  I did take a couple of days off to spend time with my family. If you are like me, a vacation was long overdue so I was eager to hit the road for some time away. I love to be on the beach but this time around my family and I went to the Rocky Mountains, for some fun outdoors.

Congratulations to Mrs. Sayler whose daughter Norah Marie was born in May. We are happy to have Mrs. Sayler back in second grade this upcoming school year. In other staff news, we are in the process of hiring an additional teacher for fourth grade. This hire is due to an increase in enrollment.

Our school is in the process of getting ready for the upcoming school year. This includes deep cleaning of our building, painting of some classrooms and new asphalt in the front of the building.

I will be sending you updates later this month on pertinent return to school information. Please contact our school office on Wednesdays 9-11 to speak to one of our office staff members or feel free to send me an email should you need any assistance or have a question.

Thank you for your collaboration and support,

    Araceli  Ordaz, Principal
