    Dear Maplebrook families,

This week we had our first snow day and boy did that feel different for our students and staff. This year the normal “YEAH it's a snow day! “ was likely a little disappointing for our students as it meant they still had to log on for remote learning.   I am happy to report that our staff was able to successfully pivot and continue with a day of learning.

Our school is abuzz as our teaching staff is looking forward to partnering with their families during parent teacher conferences. One success that we have found is that having the conferences via Zoom allows for flexibility for parents’ schedules. Conferences present a wonderful opportunity for teachers, parents and, in some cases, students to sit down together to discuss academic and social emotional progress. Please understand that these dates are scheduled

This month is Black History Month and our students at all grade levels have been participating in various learning activities to learn more about community, history and the contributions of great individuals. Please ask your student to share what they have been learning in class. Below is a partial view of Kindergatners "I have a dream" bulletin board.

Thank you for the collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook families,

Random Acts of Kindness Day 2021 is celebrated on February 17th. This is a nationwide day, to encourage acts of kindness. We encourage you to talk to your student about ways they can show kindness to a neighbor, family member or friend at school.

Bee’s are everywhere in our first grade hallways. I have the privilege of walking by and read our first graders writing “BEE my Valentine”. Our bulletin boards reflect work from both our in person and remote learners (Zoomies).

Happy Valentine's Day ! Stay warm.

Thank you for the collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook families,

This picture says it all. Maplebrook shines bright with joy!

We have just completed the 2nd week of Stage 3 Hybrid learning, and our teachers have stepped up to the plate to create an environment where in person and remote learners can learn together. We will continue to grow together as partners to make sure that students are feeling part of the classroom community and grow in their academics.

I encourage you to sign up for parent teacher conferences, if you have not already. This is a great opportunity for you to learn about your students' learning and progress towards academic goals.

Lastly, on behalf of our staff, I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Maplebrook's Home & School for the sweet treat this week. It was "PAW-fect". We all feel very appreciative of your support.

    Thank you and stay warm!

    Dear Maplebrook families,

It had been awhile, but it is back. The energy and excitement of students and staff in the building

Our hybrid learning model was successfully implemented because of the high level of commitment, dedication, and capability of our faculty and staff. We will continue to monitor student engagement, lesson effectiveness and promote community regardless of a student being in AM,PM, in person or an online learner. We understand that with any new plan we may have to make adjustments along the way. All we desire is that students “LOVE school”.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook families,

As a friendly reminder tomorrow teachers will be sharing your student’s new AM/ PM schedule. We ask that you take a few minutes to review it as some things have changed from what you may remember about the October AM/PM schedule.

One such change includes all students will meet together, Tuesday-Friday.  This is an opportunity for continued community building regardless of what session students are assigned. In addition, this affords our teachers the opportunity to check in and ensure that students know what they are to do next.

Next week is a new chapter for us as we welcome our in person learners. Our teachers will be working to continue to build class community regardless of being an in person or  virtual learner. Some of the time in our first couple of days of the new schedule teachers, will be spent on health and safety procedures and new routines that have been established for hybrid learning. Please see below for additional information regarding hybrid learning.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook families,

You may have noticed that our parking lot is full once again. Our staff has returned to teaching from their classrooms in preparation for the upcoming hybrid schedule. One shift you may notice is that your teacher may not be seated behind a screen but rather standing and moving around the room as they begin to utilize their technology differently to simulate what it will be like to have students both at home and in person.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there is no school on Monday. Although this is one day we set aside to honour Dr. King’s work, we know that the message of equality and justice for all is one that we embed in our curriculum all year long.

In today’s morning message I encouraged students to share with you what they know about Dr. King and his work. I encouraged them to observe the holiday by volunteering some of their time. I provided some suggestions on how they can use their time to volunteer to help a family member or neighbor.

We look forward to seeing the students back on Tuesday.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook families,

Two more days to go! I can hardly believe we are so close to winter break. If you are like me, you are really looking forward to it. I am hoping for our students’ sake that we will get some snow in the upcoming days so that they can go outside and enjoy playing in the snow.

We will have two full days next week with Tuesday concluding with some Winter fun. Please see below for some specifics.

Next Tuesday I will have an early edition of the Wiley WAG. This will be the last one for 2020.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

    Dear Maplebrook families,

It is hard to believe, but we are coming to the end of the first semester. Our students continue to amaze me with their talents and their commitment to academic excellence. Next week, we are celebrating Five Days of Festive Fun at Maplebrook. We encourage all of our students to wear their festive gear. Maplebrook staff will be joining in the fun as well.

If your family can, we are still accepting donations for the Naperville Fire Department Food Fight (Food, clothing and other drive), Please see below for more information on how you can help.

On another note, I want to inform you that Mrs. Tomei will not be returning to us this school year. We miss her and look forward to having her back next school year. Mr. Frantzen will continue to serve as our Music teacher until the end of the school year. We are thankful that he can continue with us to ensure consistency in the delivery of our general music education program.

Thank you so much for the collaboration and support.
