  • Kind Hearts

Posted by Karen Buell on 2/21/2020 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook families:

Our main hallway looks great with all of our hearts of random acts of kindness. We have so many thoughtful students who decided to help a family member, fellow student or neighbor. Students have been stopping by to read these wonderful acts. Our hope is that our students are inspired to continue to look for ways to do a small act that can positively impact another person.

Thank you to the 2nd grade families that came to our Music night last night. We are always impressed at the support you extend to our school.

Thank you for your continued collaboration and support.

Posted by Karen Buell on 2/14/2020 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook families:

As a reminder we are looking to acknowledge our student’s random acts of kindness. Today a red heart was sent home in backpacks. We ask that If your student performs an act of kindness, that you please help or ask them to write their act down on the heart and send it back to school. We will be displaying all of our “hearts” of kindness on our walls. Please send in the hearts any day from February 18th - February 21st.

Have a great long weekend and thank you for your continued collaboration and support.

  • Random Acts of Kindness

Posted by Karen Buell on 2/7/2020 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook families:

Happy February! This month comes with a kickoff to a month of random acts of kindness and of course typical February snowy weather.

Random Acts of Kindness Day 2020 is celebrated on February 17th. This is a nationwide day, to encourage acts of kindness. We encourage you to talk to your student about ways they can show kindness to a neighbor, family member or friend at school. February 14 a red heart will be sent home in backpacks. If your student performs an act of kindness, we ask that they write it down on the heart and send it back to school. We will be displaying all of our “hearts” of kindness on our wall. Please send in the hearts any day from February 18th - February 21st.

In regards to the weather, we will refer to the actual and “feels like” temperatures when determining whether or not to go outside for recess. We will err on the side of safety first and keep students inside if the temperature, wind, ice and/or snow becomes questionable. With that being said, we will make the attempt to get the students outside for some fresh air as often as safely possible.

Thanks for your continued collaboration and support.

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences

Posted by Karen Buell on 1/31/2020 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook families:

Recently you received a  TALK 203 communication from the District about scheduling your parent/teacher conferences on March 5th and 6th. Research and experience tells us that a strong partnership between home and school is important to student success. Parent/Teacher Conferences are a great way to strengthen this partnership. We hope you take this opportunity to sit down and talk with us about your student.

At times family travel or work arrangements may hinder such face-to-face conversations.  If you are unavailable to meet in person during conference days, please schedule a phone conference during these two days using the PTC Wizard website. Your flexibility is appreciated in arranging a conference during the district planned times.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

  • NWEA Assessment

Posted by Karen Buell on 1/17/2020 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook families:

We are so proud of our students, they worked hard this week in showing what they know in the areas of Math and Reading. The purpose of the NWEA assessment is to evaluate individual student academic performance and growth since September, when students first took the test. I am happy to report that our students remained focused and showed great growth in both academic areas.  This information will prove valuable as we plan for instruction moving forward.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there is no school on Monday. Although this is one day we set aside to honour Dr. King’s work, we know that the message of equality and justice for all is one that we embed in our curriculum all year long.  I look forward to hearing from the students how they observed the holiday.

Thank you for your collaboration and support.

  • Happy New Year

Posted by Karen Buell on 1/10/2020 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook Families:

Happy New Year and welcome back!

I hope each of you had a restful and meaningful time with family and friends during the winter break.  We at Maplebrook were excited to have the students return. The school atmosphere was a positive one as students walked in and greeted their teachers and fellow classmates. Many of our students were excited to share their winter break highlights. We learned about exciting travel destinations, memories made with extended families and even milestones achieved, like losing a tooth.

Winter weather is up on us, and we understand that illness sometimes keeps our students at home. Please review Nurse Casey’s information below on when you should keep your student at home and when they should be at school.

Thank you for the collaboration and support.

The last edition of our Wiley WAG for 2019 was sent today and will resume once again on January 10th. It was a wonderful last day with students. Our school-wide Sing a long was a hit, as well as the winter parties.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to do it without you.

On behalf of our staff, we would like to wish you all a safe and wonderful winter break.  We can't wait to see the students once again in 2020.

  • We Are Thankful for...

Posted by Karen Buell on 11/22/2019 4:00:00 PM

    Maplebrook Families:

As we reflect on the many things for which we are  thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you:

We are  thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – they give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here.

We are thankful for the support of the parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students so that all of Maplebrook’s students thrive.

We are thankful for the teachers, assistants, health tech, bus drivers, secretaries, nurses, learning support coach, lunchroom supervisors, computer support associate, custodial staff, social workers, psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapist and administrators who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart.

We are also thankful for our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our school. Your dedication to make sure that great things happen at Maplebrook makes a difference  and all children benefit from your efforts.

On behalf of our staff, I would like to wish all of you and your families a happy, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday!
