Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean's Most Fearless Scientist
We Invite You to Explore Shark Lady by Jess Keating at Home!
This year marks our fifth year partnering with our community to read, study, and celebrate an author’s writing in our One Book, One School (OBOS) program. With the OBOS program, we aim to build a community of readers at our school. Everyone―students, parents, teachers, and administrative staff will all be following along together. Throughout the span of this program, we have explored a variety of genres, such as fiction, fantasy, and science fiction. We have continued to partner with Home & School to help raise funding to support this initiative.
In school, over the next month, we will read Shark Lady: The True Story of How Eugenie Clark Became the Ocean’s Most Fearless Scientist by Jess Keating and illustrated by Marta Álvarez Miguéns for different purposes.
In addition to reading the book together, we will engage in Shark Weeks where students will engage in weekly activities tied to our curriculum and answer trivia questions related to the text.
You will find activities you can do at home in our family letter packet, which was sent home. You can also find it below:
Our OBOS program will conclude the week of September 23, 2019 with an all school assembly. Each child will receive a special t-shirt to wear on the assembly day. Please feel free to ask your child what he/she is doing during each Shark Week!
