Parents as Teachers (PAT)
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an internationally recognized early education and parent support program that begins prenatally and extends to age 5 years. It is research based and funded by an Illinois state grant with the premise that parents are the child’s first and foremost teachers. It supports the belief that early education is vital to success in school and life.
PAT offers the following:
Personal in-home visits that include practical ideas on ways to encourage learning, growth and interaction with children.
Monthly group meeting that include accessing community resources, education, and parent-child activities.
Ongoing developmental screening to monitor development and to detect potential difficulties.
Monthly drop-in play groups to encourage play and interaction with other families in the program.
Monthly meetings with pregnant teens and teen moms in the district high schools.
Acceptance of referrals from community agencies.
Some families in District 203 may meet the criteria and be eligible for this no cost program.
