Assistive Technology

The Assistive Technology Team is dedicated to supporting and building the capacity of Naperville 203 stakeholders, to effectively use technology and apply the principles of universal design and the SETT framework, to improve the performance of every student.

According to IDEA, assistive technology device:

Means any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability. The term does not include a medical device that is surgically implanted, or the replacement of such device (link to resource).

Assistive Technology: individualized, compensatory interventions used to increase performance without necessarily increasing the underlying skills. Assistive technology helps students access the curriculum. It can be low tech or high tech. The student cannot access their education without it.

Instructional Technology: instructional interventions used to increase underlying skills and teach student new skills. Instructional technology enhances the learning for the whole class.
