Early this morning, Naperville North High School received a phone call from an individual who made a threat against the school.
Our administrative team, in conjunction with the Naperville Police Department, worked quickly to ensure the safety of all students and staff members while police investigated the threat.
Naperville North students were placed in a soft lockdown with continued instruction while administrators developed a staggered release schedule to safely allow all individuals to exit the building. Students began safely exiting the building shortly after 10 a.m.
While the investigation remains ongoing, the Naperville Police Department has determined that students and staff are safe at this time and that it is safe for Naperville North to host its football game tonight and homecoming dance tomorrow night. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at both events. We will not be allowing students and children to bring any backpacks to the football stadium, and all bags will be subject to search upon entry.
We remain grateful for the collaboration with the Naperville Police Department, who allowed us to keep our students and staff safe throughout the process. I would also like to thank our parents and guardians for their patience and understanding throughout the process. Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff was, and always will be, our top priority throughout the process.
We are now beginning the process of safely releasing students who will ride the bus and students who will be picked up by parents and guardians. Parent pickup will occur at Door 19 (athletic/student parking lot). Parents will enter the grounds off of Ogden or the North entrance of Mill, follow staff direction to the athletic entrance, then exit campus from the South entrance on Mill near the tennis courts.
We are now beginning the process of safely releasing student drivers and walkers. Once that is complete, we will begin releasing bus drivers around 11 a.m.
Parent pickup will occur at Door 19 AFTER these two phases are complete. If you arrive at the building before the plan is activated, you will not be allowed access and will be directed away.
Good Morning Huskies,
Unfortunately due to the threat I informed you of earlier this morning, we are going to have to shorten our day at Naperville North for students and staff. We are planning a staggered release, after the police have deemed it safe, and will continually communicate with families as we proceed. Communication will include each of the below groups release times as they occur. Students are safe and will remain in a soft lockdown with continued instruction until this plan is activated in collaboration with the Naperville Police Department.
- Staggered release of students will begin shortly:
- Release student drivers and walkers first with oversight from NPD in the lots and area roadways
- Bus riders will be released to ride buses home (numbers announced and students released by bus numbers)
- Parent pickup will occur at Door 19 (athletic/student parking lot). Parents will enter the grounds off of Ogden or the North entrance of Mill, follow staff direction to the athletic entrance, then exit campus from the South entrance on Mill near the tennis courts. If you arrive at the building before the plan is activated, you will not be allowed access and will be directed away.
- Staff will remain on site after students have exited the building.
Students, when exiting the building, will not be allowed to access their lockers. We will notify families as to when the building is open for item retrieval.
Again, I know this is stressful, but it is imperative that we maintain calm in the building for the safety and security of the students and staff, allowing the plan to work effectively. If you arrive at the building before the plan is activated, you will not be allowed access and will be directed away.
Please know that we continue to collaborate with the Naperville Police Department (NPD) to ensure that all students and staff are kept safe throughout the release process, and we thank parents and guardians for your patience and cooperation.
Good Morning Huskies,
Very regretfully there has been another threat against NNHS today. My heart is broken to alert you to a soft lockdown of the building with no movement to and from the building. The Naperville Police Department is here with us processing the situation and planning for the safety of all staff and students at North. If we must shorten our instructional day today, I will send you the process to follow for picking up students from school, releasing them to their cars, or taking bus transportation home. At this time all students and staff are safe. To assist us with the process, please wait to come to campus as no one will be allowed to enter the building or grounds at this time. I will stay in contact with you as the morning progresses.
