Dr. Jennifer Hester Schalk, Chief Academic Officer

  • Jen began her career at Naperville 203 originally as Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. She has served as Chief Academic Officer (CAO) since 2013. In this role she supervises the K-12 instructional program and is responsible for providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services for all students in support of the District’s mission. 
    She guides the development and continuous improvement of rigorous, college-ready curricula that is aligned vertically and anchored to state and national learning standards. As CAO, Jen supervises and manages all academic service areas which include but are not limited to instructional improvement, curriculum and instruction, assessment professional development, academically gifted services, and English language learning services. Also, she administers school improvement efforts and addresses academic concerns of teachers, parents, administrators, students, staff, and the community. 
    Before joining Naperville 203, Jen served as the Director of Curriculum for St. Charles Community Unit School District 303. She also worked for the Chicago Public Schools as the Deputy Chief Officer of Literacy and for the University of Illinois at Chicago in various positions.
    What Jen enjoys most about her role at the school district is the people -  working with the dedicated and talented teachers, administrators and educational support staff. “Naperville 203 employees are deeply connected to the students and community,” she said. “There is sense of pride in being a part of Naperville 203 and what we do for students that is unmatched by anywhere else I've worked. Education is not just a career; it's a passion and a calling to serve. It is a honor and a privilege to the serve the great students and parents of Naperville 203.” 
    Jen has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Elizabethtown College,a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership - Literacy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
    A member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville, Jen volunteers for the organizations in which her children participate. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and swimming.
