Kindergarten Preview (formerly Kindergarten Roundup)

Kindergarten Preview provides parents and children an opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teachers and see the classrooms of the school students will attend in August. While the children enjoy Kindergarten experiences in one classroom, the Kindergarten teachers, Health Technician/School Nurse, Speech Teacher, School Family Community Partnership (SFCP) Parent Co-Chair, Home & School President, building Administrator, etc. will meet with parents to share the Kindergarten program, provide general school information and answer questions. Parents are asked to make arrangements for babysitting for younger children in order to give full attention to the Preview presentations.

Records Requirements

Children must be five years of age on or before September 1 to be eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall. Parents should bring a copy of an official birth certificate to the Preview. A copy of the birth certificate will be made during the program and the original will be returned at the end. Hospital certificates will not satisfy this requirement.

A physical examination within one year prior to entrance in Kindergarten is required. A complete immunization record must be documented on the health form parents will be given at Preview. A dental examination form must be submitted on or before May 15, 2010. These forms are available in school offices and in the offices of Naperville physicians. They must be completed and returned to the school office prior to the first day of attendance.

Additionally, a vision examination must have been completed by October 15, 2009 for each child entering kindergarten.

Helpful Skills

Children will adjust quickly and get the maximum benefit from the Kindergarten program by being able to do the things listed below:

• Recite full name, address and telephone number
• Cross streets without assistance and know the way home
• Put on coat and fasten it, remove it and hang it up in an orderly way
• Fasten shoes
• Put on and take off rubber boots without help
• Clean teeth, wash hands and face and care for nails
• Use tissue properly
• Use the toilet properly and fasten clothes
• Be quiet when someone else is talking
• Show respect for necessary authority
• Say "yes" and "no," "please" and "thank you" at the proper time
• Respect the care of toys and materials and put them away when through with them
• Listen to stories being read
• Use crayons and scissors carefully
• Share and play with others
• Stay focused or stay on task for 10 to 15 minutes
