Build the Future 203 is Team Those Who Excel Nominee
The Build the Future 203 Committee has been chosen to be the State Those Who Excel nominee from District 203 in the Team category for the 2007-2008 school year. The team will be recognized at the State of Illinois Those Who Excel Awards set for October 18, 2008, and at the District 203 Awards Reception held next April. Building A Passion Through Literacy Breakfast May 8
Naperville Education Foundation’s annual Building A Passion breakfast will be held on Thursday, May 8, at 7:30 AM at the Holiday Inn Select. This year's focus is on literacy. Featured speakers include authors Tim Green and Gail Carson Levine, with a special surprise appearance by none other than the Cat in the Hat. The event is again being sponsored by Ron and Nancy Nyberg and Harris Bank, so that the entire price of each ticket goes to the NEF to support enhanced learning opportunities for District 203 students through its mini-grant program and more. First Lady & Jenna Bush to visit Naperville District 203
Laura and Jenna Bush will be visiting Naperville District 203 on April 28, speaking to all of our second grade students! Two presentations are being planned. Together they have written a new children's book titled, Read All About It. They will be sharing the book and the collaborative writing process utilized in its creation. Student Job Fair on March 19 at North Central College

Building the Future site to provide facilities updates
On Monday, February 11, in a workshop setting, the Board of Education discussed the preliminary construction phasing and current sequencing strategy for Naperville Central High School, as prepared by architects Wight & Company. District 203 facilities referendum approved by voters
District 203's facilities referendum, proposed by the Board Education in December, was approved by 59% of those who cast a ballot in the February 5 General Primary Election. Voter turnout was strong (about 50%), compared with previous primaries. The $43 million referendum is part of a $114.9 million plan to address the District's most pressing facilities needs. More...

SCHOOL IS CLOSED TODAY, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1
Due to inclement weather, there will be no school in Naperville District 203 today, Friday, February 1. Please note that any student who receives transportation through District 203, including those who attend parochial schools and out-of-district facilities, will not be transported as a result. Students who are affected will receive an excused absence. If improved weather conditions allow for after-school activities to be held later today, that information will be posted on this website by 2 PM. Update on activities scheduled for Friday, February 1
All school-sponsored evening activities in District 203 scheduled for Friday, February 1, are proceeding as scheduled with the following EXCEPTIONS: all Naperville Park District activities and programs are cancelled; all junior high activities and programs are cancelled; the NCHS boys' track meet scheduled to be held at Wheaton-Warrenville South and the NCHS girls' junior varsity basketball game scheduled to be played at Wheaton North have been cancelled; the NCHS girls' gymnastic practice has been cancelled, as has the NNHS Orchesis meeting. Last chance for Naperville Central High School tours
There is still time to tour Naperville Central High School this coming Saturday, February 2. Two tour times will be offered, one at 9 AM and one at 11 AM. The community is invited to attend; no pre-registration is required. Elementary Open Houses Scheduled for This Week
Twelve out of 14 District 203 elementary schools will be holding an Open House this week.  Naper School kicks off the week on Tuesday, January 29. On Wednesday, January 30, Highlands, Meadow Glens and Mill Street hold the first of two evenings of Open Houses (check with the main office to determine what grades on which nights). On Wednesday, January 31, in addition to the three schools just noted, Beebe, Ellsworth, Kingsley, Meadow Glens, Prairie, River Woods, Scott and Steeple Run will hold Open Houses. More tours of Naperville Central High School offered
District 203 will be offering two more tours at Naperville Central High School on Thursday, January 24, from 7 to 8:30 PM, and on Friday, January 25, from 1 to 2:30 PM. The community is invited to attend; no pre-registration is required. Tenative 2008-09 Calendar presented to the Board
A draft 2008-2009 Calendar was presented to the Board of Education at its Monday, December 17, meeting. In accordance with the timeline developed in late September, a formal committee report will be presented at the January 7, 2008, meeting of the Board. Naperville School District 203 has formed a new Finance Advisors Committee for the 2007-08 school year. Interested residents with a financial background were invited to submit a letter of application in September. The Finance Advisors Committee has been established to provide the Superintendent and Board of Education with a fresh perspective and specialized expertise in matters of business and finance. Decision for the Future: Board votes to go to referendum on February 5, 2008

Facilities Update - November 19 School Board Meeting
At the November 19 business meeting of the Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Alan Leis made the following recommendations in relation to District 203’s most pressing facilities needs: a major renovation of Naperville Central High School on its current site (total cost of $87.7 million); an addition and renovation at Mill Street Elementary School (total cost $7.3 million); and the construction of an Early Childhood Center ($11 million), most likely on the Huntington Estates property. CEC Systems Assessment Promotes Improvement
In every continuous improvement model, it is imperative for an organization to invite peers from outside to conduct an external evaluation. District 203 requested to work with the Consortium for Education Change (CEC). CEC is a network of Illinois school districts and professional organizations whose mission is to improve student achievement by assisting member districts and schools to become collaborative, high performing organizations. CEC has developed and refined a systems assessment process based on research. In addition, CEC has experience conducting systems assessment in many districts. District 203 announces community survey results
The District 203 Board of Education authorized a scientifically and statistically valid random phone survey of 400 registered voters to determine if the views of those attending our Touch the Future meetings and tours mirrored the electorate. That data provides important additional insight to ensure that the opinions of the entire community are considered.

The complete report from our survey firm, UNICOM-ARC, will be presented to the Board of Education at its November 5 work session (7 PM). The report will review the survey methodology, give detailed information about demographic breakdown of the data, and share how our results compare to those of other school districts that have used UnicomARC surveys to measure community opinion. Nonetheless, the Board has decided to issue the preliminary findings from the survey in advance of its November 5 meeting to allow the community to review the results. More...

District 203 "super cleans" high schools & junior highs
In response to two confirmed MRSA cases, District 203 is working with the DuPage County Health Department, as is customary, and will follow their direction and guidelines to assure the continued safety of our students and staff. The locker rooms at both high schools, as well as our five junior highs, have been super cleaned with a product that kills these types of bacteria. All District 203 custodians have been instructed to heighten the cleaning of surfaces that are commonly touched, such as handles, door knobs and drinking fountains - in all 21 schools. Parent-Teacher Conferences WILL be held at NNHS
District 203 has taken every precaution to make sure that our buildings are safe for all occupants. We have been working with the DuPage County Health Department all afternoon to make sure that the procedures being used to clean our buildings are in compliance with their standards. District 203 State Report Cards now available online
Each year, the State of Illinois prepares district-wide and school-specific report cards. These reports contain student achievement scores and other relevant information. A majority of the data in these documents comes from the standardized testing administered in the spring of the previous school year. National Merit and National Achievement Semifinalists
Forty-seven students from District 203 were among the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists named in the 53rd annual National Merit Scholarship Corporation program and recently announced by officials of the NMSC. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $34 million, that will be offered next spring. Three District 203 students were designated as Semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship joining more than 1,600 Black American high school seniors who have been named in the 44th annual Achievement Scholarship competition.
