NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Four of the five Capacity Study Public Forums for community input on a draft map of potential boundary changes were held this week. The first 20 minutes of the program includes an explanation of the capacity study history and process and a description of the neighborhood reassignments as they appear on the draft map. Video of the opening presentation and Dr. Mitrovich discussing the need for all day kindergarten is now available for viewing on the district web site. A link to the videos can be found on the Demographic and Capacity main page.

The last scheduled public forum for the discussion of draft map #6 will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at Madison Junior High School. The ECS committee will reconvene to review questions submitted at the public forums and via email. To submit your comments for consideration, go to: Email Links for Capacity Study Input

Naperville District 203 is seeking community members to serve on a Diversity Initiatives Advisory Committee to explore the current state of the district in relation to diversity issues. The Diversity Initiatives Advisory Committee will provide district administration with recommendations in six identified areas: culture of inclusion, teaching and learning, staff development, recruitment and retention, and inclusive language/communications. The membership of the five sub-committees will be comprised of district staff representing administration, certified, non-certified and support staff and up to three citizens per sub-committee.

Committee members must be available to meet during the weeks of February 27, April 9 and May 13 for one session each week from 3:30-5:30 pm. The day of the week will be determined at a later time based on greatest availability of the committee members. Any residents of District 203 who would like to be considered for one of the sub-committees is invited to complete a statement of interest. The completed information can be sent to Naperville CUSD203 Administrative Center, 203 West Hillside Road, Naperville, Illinois, 60504 or emailed to dhoward@naperville203.org. The deadline for submitting a statement of interest is Monday, February 13.

As you are most likely aware, District 203 is currently studying attendance boundaries and may be adjusting school assignments beginning as early as the 2012-2013 school year. While no final plan has been recommended, there is the potential that pending decisions could affect where your child attends kindergarten next year.

Understanding that it could be disconcerting for a child and family to attend Kindergarten Preview at one school only to find out that they are attending another District 203 school, we are postponing Kindergarten Previews at all schools until April. The District will communicate any change in a child's school assignment as soon as the final plan is approved.

We regret the inconvenience this causes your family and thank you in advance for your patience. Please refer to the Kindergarten Preview page for revised dates.

Fechas para Vista Previa de Kinder Año Escolar 2012-2013

Public forums for review of the capacity and boundary revision plan will be held in each of the junior high schools according to the schedule listed below.  These dates have changed from the original tentative schedule because the Enrollment Capacity Study (ECS) committee requested an additional week to review the draft maps and the feedback received following the release of Draft Maps #4 and #5.

All public forums are from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

We understand that some dates conflict with some school’s events. Finding times when each of the junior high schools could host these forums without further delay necessitated the choice of dates. Community members can attend ANY scheduled forum. The same format will be used and information available at each meeting.

Monday, January 30
at Lincoln Junior High School
Tuesday, January 31 at Washington Junior High School
Wednesday, February 1 at Jefferson Junior High School
Thursday, February 2 at Kennedy Junior High School
Wednesday, February 8 at Madison Junior High School

The forums will include:

  • A brief history of the process to date
  • A presentation and explanation of Draft Map #6
  • An opportunity for the public to review Draft Map #6
  • A dialogue and exchange of comments/ feedback from the community

Comments from each of the five sessions will be compiled and presented to the ECS committee when they reconvene on Wednesday, February 15.

SPOTLIGHT

Technology transforms learning environments in District 203. The Instructional Technology team works with the Learning Services department to effectively integrate technology tools and resources into the curriculum. To maximize this benefit, Technology Integration Specialists (TISs), who are certified teachers, help their fellow teachers bring technology into the classroom. They also provide one-on-one assistance to individual teachers, grade level teams and content area teams in implementing the curriculum.

There are thirteen TISs in District 203, with many supporting multiple buildings, Their role centers around seven main areas, and they are asked to provide expertise on key projects. Click here for the full article including a listing of TISs and their respective buildings.
