WHO WE ARE...

Prairie Home & School (H&S) is an active volunteer group made up of Prairie School parents and guardians who work in cooperation with Prairie teachers and administration to make our school an extraordinary place for our children.  If you have a child at Prairie, you are automatically a member.

WHAT WE DO…

Our H&S runs many important school programs and activities that are funded with monies raised by our various fundraisers.  These programs include:

• Art Awareness – Art related curriculum is presented in the classrooms three (3) times per year
• Assemblies – 3-4 assemblies are offered per year
• Birthday Books – In celebration of his/her birthday each year, every student is invited to select a book as a gift from H&S
• Family Support – Various support is provided to Prairie families in need due to special circumstances
• Field Trips – H&S supplements costs of many grade level field trips throughout the year
• Fifth Grade Special Projects – Several activities are provided for the 5th grade students, including a remembrance project, a
panoramic picture, distribution of pennants, and a Fine Arts Program
• Prairie School Directory – A directory of student contact information
• Jingle Bell Junction – A holiday store allowing students to purchase inexpensive holiday gifts
• LRC – Volunteers participate in book checkout, F.L.I.P. (extra reading practice) and M.O.S.T. (extra math practice)
• Prairie Dog Newsletter – A monthly electronic publication containing information pertaining to Prairie School
• Prairie Day – A fun-filled day for all Prairie students
• Room Parties – Parent volunteers organize and run 3 classroom parties per year
• Science Fair – A non-competitive event for students K-5
• Staff Appreciation – Tokens of appreciation, acknowledgments of sympathy & congratulations for the staff are provided through the year
• Week-at-a-Glance – A weekly electronic publication communicating
the upcoming week’s  list of events, due dates and announcements
• Extra Student Activities – H&S helps support extra school activities such as Battle of the Books, Chess Club, Lego Club, Student Council, Safety Patrol and Book Club
• Teacher Allowances – Each year H&S provides each teacher with an allowance to supplement their individual classrooms
• Purchase school items such as Lobby & LRC furniture, kiln, teacher wishlist items, entryway garden

 

HOW YOU CAN HELP…

Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! Studies show that students do better in school when their parents/guardians are involved.  You can help out as much as your level of commitment will allow.  Please consider volunteering…contact Kacie Chitwood at kacie.chitwood@gmail.com


HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE…

Participate in our fundraisers as much as you are able, a little goes a long way for our students!  There is never any obligation to donate, participation is completely optional, but every little bit helps our students. Some of our fundraising events include:
