Grade Level Applications
Elementary
Comic Life - This software aids students in adding images and graphics in a colorful and interesting way to their writing. Students find the comic format a fun and motivating way to create original works from fiction to expository. Comic Life helps to round out the many different types of writing experiences and opportunities provided to students.
Kidspiration - Created for K-5 learners, Kidspiration develops thinking, literacy and numeracy skills using proven visual learning principles. In reading and writing, Kidspiration strengthens word recognition, vocabulary, comprehension and written expression. With new visual math tools, students build reasoning and problem solving skills.
Lego Mindstorms - Students in the fourth and fifth grade Project Idea program are challenged to apply problem solving and communication skills as they work in small teams to build and program simple robot devices. The “Challenges” they are asked to solve require them to practice the “Habits of Mind” they have been learning throughout the Project Idea experience. Each task requires students to build unique robots whose design specifically meets the stated challenge, as well as to create a simple program that controls the robots' motions.
Pixie - Using Pixie, kindergarten through fifth grade students have the opportunity to draw, “paint”, and create in an effort to show evidence of their learning. Stickers, stamps, and spray cans are some of the many tools available to showcase their creativity. With the click of a button, students have the opportunity to share, showcase, and present their work with others.
Type to Learn - Keyboarding instruction is part of the curriculum for third, fourth, and fifth graders. The Type to Learn software is the application students use as they learn about key placement and appropriate fingering while keyboarding. As technology becomes an ever more important tool in learning, students need to be comfortable with keyboarding so that they can be efficient and productive.
