Improvements in bus access, drop-off and parking
ready for the 2009-2010 school year
We recommend the following procedures in order to maximize the efficiency of drop-off and pick-up in all the lots. Click here for a site plan of Naperville North High School showing parking, bus access and drop-off configuration.
If you are driving to the school from the south on Mill Street: Please use the South (Blue) Lot for dropping-off and picking-up. The roadway in this parking lot circulates in a one-way, counter-clockwise fashion. Your exit from this lot can be to return to Mill, or you can continue along the roadway that passes by the stadium and exit onto Ogden Avenue going east.
If you are driving to the school from the north on Mill Street (including those who are coming from the East and make a left-hand turn south on Mill): You may enter either the North (Orange) Lot or the South (Blue) Lot. If you enter the North Lot to drop off, you may proceed straight through and exit on Ogden going east, or you may loop around and exit going south on Mill.
If you are driving to the school from the west on Ogden: Please use the Ogden Avenue entrance. We strongly prefer that you turn to the right and proceed along the roadway that passes by the stadium and links to the South Lot. You may drop-off or pick-up next to the Auditorium in the South Lot. You would then exit onto Mill Street. As an alternative you may turn left when you exit from Ogden and proceed into the North Lot. If you do this, please be very careful turning left across the exiting traffic. Your exit from the North Lot would be going south on Mill.

May, 2009
- Final grading and compaction of the stone base was completed.
- Synthetic turf installation began. In order to complete the field for graduation, the excavation crew worked twelve-hour days with two shifts, six days per week. Despite little cooperation from the weather, the project was finished in time for graduation.
- Groundbreaking for the NNHS projects was Monday, May 11, and was attended by some 150 people, including community, students, parents, staff, Board of Education members and the press.
- The start date for pool renovations was moved forward one week due to thoughtful planning by NNHS athletic staff.
- Graduation was celebrated on the new field on May 20, 2009.
- Demolition began on the pool.
- Lamp started site construction including grading, fencing and tree removal.

April, 2009
- The excavator restarted earthwork for the synthetic turf installation. Seven working days are required for complete grading of the base after the ground has dried out.
- Since there were not many stretches of dry days, additional measures were taken to dry out the field to accommodate graduation. These included covering the field with plastic overlaid with a fiber mat and applying a "fly ash" treatment to draw out moisture in preparation for the application of stone.
- The stone base - 2,500 tons of stone hauled by 112 trucks! - was laid down in late April following the application of the fly ash.

December, 2008
- District 203 requested proposals from IHC and Lamp to perform construction management services for the NNHS pool and site work project.
- Landscaping plans around the parking site work renovations were discussed by the Steering Committee; in particular, the student plaza space near the bus parking and the plaza near the proposed stadium entrance.
- The Steering Committee decided that a construction manager was best suited to manage the pool and site projects while District staff would handle owner's representative activities on all projects.
- Wight proposed that pool construction take place during the summer of 2009, beginning before the end of school and probably running into early September.
- The design team finalized how the ticket gate would be incorporated into the site work design package.
- Bus parking was discussed at the Steering Committee meeting.

November, 2008
- Wight met with NNHS pool staff to review minor change requests on the pool drawings.
- Wight meet with Boosters and NNHS staff to review plans for a proposed northeast entrance plaza that will be funded by the Boosters, who will apply existing funds to the proposed plaza construction which includes a new gate, ticket booths and brick paving. The Boosters will raise money by offering named pavers in the plaza area. This work will be bid as an alternate outside of the base bid so the work can be tracked and paid for separately. The Boosters request that Wight check whether this plaza can be completed before graduation in May, 2009.
- The design team met with the District 203 Transportation Department to discuss bus parking.
- Work continued on the synthetic turf project. The excavation contractor will finish soil removal this fall and start placing the main portion of the stone base in early spring. This will allow the soil to dry out after the spring thaw before covering it with stone. The excavation contractor, who specializes in synthetic turf installations, has had much better experience with drying out the soil using this method.
- A series of meetings were held to review the pool layout and confirm the athletic field lines on the turf.
- The Steering Committee discussed whether Summer School can take place at NNHS while parking and site construction is going on.
- A meeting was held with the City of Naperville to discuss a left-turn lane from Mill Street into the NNHS driveway.

October, 2008
- The Turf Review Committee selected Field Turf as the preferred vendor for synthetic turf.
- Wight delivered the Design Development book for distribution to the Board of Education and renderings of plans to the Boosters for a new proposed gate on the northeast corner of the field. The Boosters will use these plans to raise funds for the gate, which includes a ticket booth and paved plaza. Any extra costs will be bid as alternates to the NNHS site work project, and the Boosters will pay for any charges that are over the base construction. This includes the extra cost of designing the alternate bids.
- The District worked on a time for Wight to perform a mock-up of the bus parking at NNHS, for testing by the District’s Transportation Department.
