March 19 Board makes final determination to accept Phase I of boundary reassignment plan

The Board of Education on Monday, March 19, 2012, approved Phase I of school attendance boundary changes to relieve crowding at Mill Street and Beebe Schools.

The changes, to take place in the fall of 2012, were proposed by the Enrollment Capacity Study (ECS) committee. The Board said that Phase I should alleviate crowding at Mill Street and Beebe Schools and that enrollment will be closely monitored following the moves.

The remaining school boundary changes, denoted as Phase II and proposed by the ECS committee, were not acted on by the Board. This will provide the time for a more deliberate approach on the remaining boundary change proposals and transition plan.

The Phase I reassignments for 2012-13 are as follows (with grid code listed):

  • Reassign remainder of Wil-o-way (320113) and West Branch (320116) to Elmwood and Lincoln (134 current elementary students/76 junior high students)
  • Reassign Peach Creek (320124) to Steeple Run (66 current students)
  • Reassign Plank Road area east of Naper (320118) to Steeple Run (112 current students)
  • Reassign Green Trails East (320577) to Ranch View (116 current students)

The Board also approved grandfathering options that allow some students in the higher grades in their schools to elect to continue at their current schools. For details on grandfathering options, please read the Understanding Grandfathering Options document. For a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the boundary reassignments, please click here.

A complete listing of the changes and breakdown of the grandfathering policy can be found in the Overview before the Board document posted on the web site.
