Dear Ann Reid Families,
Welcome to the 16-17 school year! We have very much enjoyed greeting our returning families and welcoming many new families this week! The new school year is always an exciting time for us, but especially our young students, who for many, this is their first school experience. It is our honor to be the first District 203 school for students at Ann Reid. This year we will be working collaboratively with our families to ensure all students are instilled with a “Growth Mindset” in our classrooms. This means new experiences, individual challenges and learning new skills are viewed by all as positive opportunities that allow us to keep trying, growing and learning to think of challenging situations as something we haven’t mastered “yet.” As a staff, we will all be reading the bestseller, Mindset, The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck and look forward to sharing with our parent community as we learn to implement some of these strategies into the classrooms.
As a result, we have chosen this year’s theme to be “Ready, Set…Grow!” This year promises to be a very special year and we are grateful to have all of our families as our partners in the most important work-educating our youngest students to be Self-Directed Learners, Collaborative Workers, Complex Thinkers, Quality Producers and Community Contributors. These are the strands of our mission in District 203 and very much a part of our daily mission here at Ann Reid. Thank you for allowing us to be your child’s first school and for all you do to collaborate with us!
